Mike Giant – San Francisco

Where did you grow up?
I lived in Hamlin, NY until I was 8 years old. It’s a small town near Rochester. My family moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1979 and I spent my formative years there. Burque por vida!

Where do you live?
I live in San Francisco, a few steps from Golden Gate Park, but I can’t afford to stay. It turned into the New Manhattan. I’m moving to LA when my lease is up.

Your star sign?

Your personal sound track at the moment?
The XLR8R podcasts.

Who is you style icon?
Male – Tony Alva. Female – Megan Louise Torres.

What would you like to do when you grow up?
I draw for a living, but when I have the means I hope to found a commune based on mindful living and the arts. That’s my ultimate goal at this point. I’m sure I will continue to draw for the rest of my life but I would like to get to a place where I don’t have to sell my drawings or handle money at all really. I’ve done retreats with Buddhist monks and experienced the freedom and feeling of ease that opens up when I’ve practiced their lifestyle. When I go on retreat with the monks I leave my laptop, money, Iphone, keys and headphones at home. We work as a community to feed ourselves and make sure everything around the monastery is taken care of. It’s incredibly simple and vastly satisfying to me. I hope to spend as much time as possible living like that “when I grow up”.

Yeah, Mike, I love the old farmer outfit with hat and bike.
You are one inspiring guy, living your life as you choose, mindfully questioning.
Promise to come and see us next time you in NY!

He has such a kind look on his face, and such a unique look.
I wish one day I can manage to live without money as well, I can only imagine what it must be like to live without that weight on you.

What an amazing human being, if only more people could harness Mikes beliefs and way of life the world would be a better place and a little more awesome too!
